Rare Facts About La Tomatina

La Tomatina is one of the wackiest festivals of Spain and every year this festival is celebrated at the end of August. On this day people throw tomatoes on each other and play with them. The whole street of Valencian town gets flooded with tomato juice. People from all over the world come and enjoy this day. As this messiest day is approaching so we get some of the rare facts about this tomato fight

1. This messy tomato war is the biggest food fight in the world. Every year around 40,000 people come to celebrate this day.

2. The origin of this festival started in 1950 when a street fight took place by throwing vegetables on each other. Though for many years cops tried to ban this food fight but people made it a tradition that every citizen of Spain follows.

3. Although this fight last for only 1 hour but over 150,000 tomatoes are thrown and are brought at a very cheap cost from Extremadura region of Spain.

4. The brawl starts with a ham which is hung on the top of a pole in the middle of the town at morning. Immediately when the first person climbs the pole and retrieves the jamon a loud signal goes and finally everyone starts with the fun

5. Because of the heat and blood red color of tomatoes majority of people wear white color clothes. Some are seen wearing swimming goggles and snorkeling gear to keep their eyes protected.

6. As this festival is so popular that people come in bulk across the world for attending it and tourism gets highly increased during this time. Hotels and all other things get expensive so most people commute by trains.

7. After the fun gets over the whole streets are properly cleaned and everyone who plays with them gets a naturally beautiful glowing skin the next day.

8. Along with tomatoes the festival also includes parades, fireworks and paella cooking contests on the streets.

9. Google also marks this festivity with its temporary banner celebrating La Tomatina.

10. In India also some cities like Bangalore tried to recreate this festival but it was not successful as the government found it as wastage of tomatoes.
