Independence Day is here and we all are ready to celebrate it with enthusiasm. People from all over India come together to honour the brave hearts of our country but there are a lot of things to know about our fight for freedom. Here are some quick interesting facts for you to know.

India did not have a government, prime minister or a president when it initially became independent.

The national anthem of India was recognized in 1950.

Jammu and Kashmir, Mysore and Hyderabad were few of princely states that became part of India after independence.

Goa became a part of of India in 1961.

Mahatma Gandhi was not present during the first celebration of Independence Day and took part in hunger strike instead.

Lord Mountbatten chose 15th August as the date of Indian independence as it coincided with the date of Japan’s surrendering to the Allied Forces after World War II.

5 other countries celebrate Independence Day on 15th August including North Korea, South Korea, Republic of Congo, Bahrain and Liechtenstein.
