Kids from the US and Mexico Play Together at the Border

Aug 05, 2019

Thinking about our childhood days always makes us smile. Playing and having a lot of fun with friends in playgrounds and swings are  important part of childhood. However, have you ever seen seesaws near the heavily guarded border? Well, we have one now.

Just like a fairytale a set of appalling pink seesaws sprang upright in the middle of the United States border wall with Mexico. The seesaws became an instant hit and children are having fun on them. Not minding the metal border that separated them.

The seesaws were installed right across the US-Mexico border between El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez in Mexico. The two professors are behind this genius’s brilliant idea. They are Ronald Rael, a professor of architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, and Virginia San Fratello — an associate professor of design at San José State University

Rael posted videos and photos of the seesaws in action on Instagram. The best things are that everyone loved them, no matter their age! Rael’s post went viral.

One of the most incredible experiences of my and @vasfsf’s career bringing to life the conceptual drawings of the Teetertotter Wall from 2009 in an event filled with joy, excitement, and togetherness at the borderwall. The wall became a literal fulcrum for U.S. - Mexico relations and children and adults were connected in meaningful ways on both sides with the recognition that the actions that take place on one side have a direct consequence on the other side. Amazing thanks to everyone who made this event possible like Omar Rios @colectivo.chopeke for collaborating with us, the guys at Taller Herrería in #CiudadJuarez for their fine craftsmanship, @anateresafernandez for encouragement and support, and everyone who showed up on both sides including the beautiful families from Colonia Anapra, and @kerrydoyle2010, @kateggreen , @ersela_kripa , @stphn_mllr , @wakawaffles, @chris_inabox and many others (you know who you are). #raelsanfratello #borderwallasarchitecture

Donald Trump always wanted to build a wall between the United States and Mexico. According to The Guardian, The US supreme court recently ruled in Trump’s favor and allowed him to use 2.5 billion dollars of Pentagon funds on four contracts to replace existing barriers with fencing.
