What to Expect from a State-Guided Tour of North Korea

Feb 04, 2020

North Korea was divided into the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ( North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) after 1953. While South Korea poses no restrictions on its tourists, it’s not the same with North Korea.

If you were to visit North Korea, the only way to explore is through a state-guided tour and not being a part of the authorized tour can land you in trouble. You may also find yourself in an unpleasant situation if you ask too many questions.

Here is what you should know and expect from your trip to North Korea

The political situation between North Korea and South Korea is tense and security issues may arise

You may not be able to access the internet as freely and some sites may also be blocked

Not abiding by the rules may get you and your guide killed and be prepared to face severe limitations

Some nationalities do not get a permit to enter North Korea so there are chances that your visa doesn't get approved.

Your passport will be taken away from you during your trip for security reasons

You will not be able to interact with locals or see how they live

Your phone will be taken away from you as well

You are required to respect the Korean leader and not doing so can get you imprisoned

Are you still planning to visit North Korea?
